Ms. Farricker
Ms. Farricker taught first grade at Gibbs School for 15 years and is excited to be the new TIPS Reading teacher! She attended Providence College in Rhode Island and has dual certification in elementary education and special education. Ms. Farricker is also certified as a reading specialist and earned her Master's Degree in Literacy from St. Thomas Aquinas College.
Students who are part of the TIPS Reading program receive supplemental reading support in a small group setting. Students are met at their individual level and lessons/activities are tailored to each student's specific learning needs. Ms. Farricker strives to create an environment where students respect each other and work cooperatively to achieve goals. During their TIPS time, students can be found engaging in word study, reading fluency, and reading comprehension activities. We decode words, we encode words, we divide words into syllables and mark the vowels, etc.! Ms. Farricker believes strongly in multisensory learning so students can be found practicing letter formation in sand, skywriting, tapping (irregular) red words on their arm, finger blending, and using letter tiles or blending boards.
Ms. Farricker is grateful for the many wonderful students and families that she has met at Gibbs and is looking forward to meeting even more students in her new role! She absolutely loves to read and frequently receives book recommendations from other members of the Gibbs staff.
