Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Penn State University Orton-Gillingham Training, Aug. 2016
Mrs. Leigh Madger
Mrs. Madger has been at Gibbs School since September of 1999. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Penn State University, and taught First and Second grade at Gibbs for 15 years. In September of 2015, she was very excited to take on the role of a TIPS Literacy teacher. As a TIPS teacher, she works with General Education students in grades K-5, working to specifically support them in all aspects of reading.
Her students receive "T.I.P.S.; Targeted Intervention and Planned Support" through a variety of push-in and pull-out small group sessions. These groups will utilize methods from programs such as LLI (Leveled Literacy Instruction), Orton-Gillingham, Project Read, and Teacher's College, as well as receiving benchmark and progress monitoring with aimsWeb and DIBELS assessment tools. The goal is for students to enter into the program, make significant progress through school and home efforts, and exit the program when they are able to meet grade level standards independently.
Mrs. Madger also works at Gibbs School as the R.E.A.C.H. teacher "Reaching Excellence through Academic CHallenge" for students in grades 2 and 3. Students who are recommended, performing strongly in school, and maintaining well above-average scores on assessments are invited to join the REACH program to take part in three learning modules per year, held two days a week before school. The modules center around STEAM learning, which incorporates skills of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
Outside of school, Mrs. Madger lives in Montvale, with her daughter, Charlotte, her husband, Ed, and their two cats, S'mores and Stormy. She is an avid soccer coach and dance mom, who also enjoys gardening, hiking, and days at the beach.
