Debbie Gitto attended Rutgers University where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with a focus on Elementary Education. She also attended St. Thomas Aquinas College where she received a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate of Advanced Study in Education. Mrs. Gitto began teaching 3rd Grade in New Milford in 1995 at Berkley Street School when it was still a K-3 building. Her first classroom was where the main office is now! Mrs. Gitto has taught 2nd and 3rd grade since returning to Berkley Street School in 2011, and has been a teacher in New Milford for a total of 20 years.

     Mrs. Gitto’s classroom is a vibrant environment where students are valued, nurtured, and encouraged daily to reach their full potential. Her classroom library includes a wide variety of book collections that span many levels of reading.  Colorful and organized book bins invite students to develop their love of reading.  In math, she incorporates a concrete, hands-on approach to instruction.   She fosters an atmosphere where learning is student-centered and student-driven, as children explore and discover that learning is exciting.  Kindness is a daily focus & expectation.  Debbie Gitto takes pride in being a teacher of the New Milford School District.  Learning & growth is always in progress as students realize that they can do anything they set their minds to achieve!
